What is VBS Bilateral BootCamp?

Our Camp is independently funded however we accept generous donations from patrons like you. Our camp was created on the premise that all children deserve to receive the most out of their community learning environments and children in some impoverished areas may not have that opportunity based on risk factors. Children deserve to play outdoors and to just be kids, and our camps allow them to do just that while being responsible, safe, and respectful.

All children deserve fitness opportunities and providing fitness activities that cross the midline does just that. We have devised an obstacle course that not only provides exercise fun but is centered on crossing the midline movements increasing focus-driven cognitive processing.

Please donate today, because, with your support, we will continue our mission to bring hope, health, and community connectedness to assist young children in building meaningful connections through play-based learning.

What are bilateral movements and why are they important?

Bilateral coordination – Also known as bilateral integration – is the ability to use both sides of the body at the same time. This is important because many movements require the use of both sides of the body in order to perform everyday tasks including walking, cutting, catching balls, and playing.

Skills learned while playing:

* Balance

* Coordination

* Core building

* Simultaneous movements

* Fine / Gross Motor Skills

* Self Esteem

* Intrinsic motivation

We provide developmentally appropriate opportunities for interpersonal development. No matter your family’s schedule, fitness level, our convenient VBS Bilateral Boot Camp is the right fit for your learner.

Individualized Reading Plan (IDP)

Individualized  Plans (IPBP's) and  Individual Development Plans (IDP's)

Developing the 3 grip pincer grasp

Our plans are individually based depending on a child's weaknesses. Some plans will include academic strategies to build content learning allowing a child to gain self-esteem. as children who feel successful are more adapt to comprehend limits and expectations.

A beginning  IDP or ILP in academics may include a writing plan to develop a learner's pincer grasp. This plan may include developing symbolic representation in writing as at times young children’s first attempt at the writing process often leads to frustration.

Children as young as 2 years old begin to imitate the act of writing by creating drawings and symbolic markings that represent their thoughts and ideas (Rowe & Neitzel 2010; Dennis & Votteler 2013). When children learn to write they're developing fine motor skills in addition to gaining self-esteem in abilities which lead to intrinsic motivation.

By kindergarten, children should:

2. How to count to 20, write numerals, associate numbers to quantity

3. The alphabet, recognize A-Z, know letter sounds from A-Z

4. The basic shapes, primary colors, and spelling of colors,

Large Group (LG) Social-Emotional Development

(LG) Social-Emotional Learning
What is social-emotional learning?

Social-Emotional learning or (SEL) is the process through which children acquire understanding through positive actions in a heightened state of emotion. Children are able to show they recognize an emotion, they can label the emotion, and are able to use learned language to manage emotion or seek support when needed. Social-emotional learning also allows children to show empathy for others, and establish and maintain positive relationships with adults and peers.

High Quality (Academic  Learning Time or LG)

What Does “High Quality” Mean?https://www.michigan.gov/documents/mde/Classroom_Requirements._August_2014_466777_7.pdf

and https://www.theclassroom.com/become-teacher-private-christian-school-4493481.html

High-quality means the plan is led by highly qualified instructors who are competent in technology integration.

Teachers in high-quality programs build on KWHL in an (LG) setting where instruction develops based on what a child already Knows, What a child needs to learn, How will the content knowledge be obtained, and the Learned knowledge (assessment).  Our professionals provide experiences that are developmentally appropriate and allow children to obtain goals (IDP) by modeling appropriate behaviors reinforcing limits and expectations. This is called developmentally appropriate practice (DAP). Developmentally appropriate practice means

  • Teaching based on each child's age and stage of development

  • Helping each child meet goals that are just right for that child

  • Valuing and including each child's family, language, and culture.

Choice Time (CT) Play or Meetups

Developing Problem Solving Skills

Choice Time / CT  or meetups is not a time to give children tasks, but an opportunity for children to direct their own play with peers and therefore, their own learning. The adult can set up play areas with materials that provoke investigations but it is the child who discovers ways of using the materials and problem solve enhancing interpersonal and prosocial behaviors..

Small-Group (SG) Individualized Development Plans

Here For You

Small Groups provide an opportunity for a child to develop skills in a small group setting where there is less stimulation and have individualized instruction from the teacher.

Read Alouds ILP

A Perfect Fit

This strategy is based on IDP and designed to strengthen social-emotional behaviors. Individually based plans help children learn how to use language to make sense of their world. Reading specific stories aligned to strengthen a learner's emotional modulation allows children to recognize patterns in behavior, develop information-processing skills, including vocabulary, and comprehension.  Reading aloud also targets the skill of audio listening and research shows adults who read-aloud motivate students to read.
